People who prioritize work usually tend to be indifferent or ignorant about the condition of their own bodies. Data even shows that more than 40 percent of employees ignore other aspects of their lives just because of work. How can you stay healthy and fit if almost all your time is spent working?
Try to remember, when was the last time you got enough sleep or exercised? When was the last time you went to the cinema or salon to just unwind? Or maybe you never eat home-cooked food anymore and only buy junk food because of its practicality?
If you are starting to experience these various things, it is a sign that something is wrong with your life. Busy work makes you only think about deadlines and targets without remembering that you also need attention.
2. Get stressed quickly, get angry and restless easily
When life and work are no longer balanced, it is not only your physical health that is undermined but also your mental health.
Taking care of work without any rest time makes you vulnerable to prolonged stress. As a result, you will become more irritable, anxious, panicked, and even experience depression. Again, this appears when your brain only thinks about work.
Reporting from the Mental Health Foundation page, 27% of employees who work excessively feel very stressed, 34 percent feel anxious, and more than half are irritable.
3. Often feel incompetent
In fact, the longer you work, the greater a person's worry about their job. As a result, you feel that what you have done is never enough.
You always feel like the quality of your work is decreasing. In fact, this may just be excessive worry that arises because you are working too much.
4. Often feel lonely
When life and work start to get out of balance, you will start to feel lonely. This is because you miss a lot of time with your family and loved ones.
Even if you have time to come to a family event or get together with friends, maybe you have run out of energy to interact. As a result, you just sit there listening without saying much.
This makes you feel left out and lonely for a long time. In fact, relationships with the people closest to you are starting to become strained.
5. There are no clear boundaries between work and home matters
One sign that is easy to see when work and life are out of balance is that you take your work home. This means you still receive calls and open e-mails about work at home.
You feel like you have to be on call all the time. As a result, you cannot enjoy your rest time as you should.
Solutions when work and personal life are out of balance
Do you feel like you are experiencing the signs above? Then now is the time for you to improve it little by little to achieve work-life balance. Here's how to solve it:
1. Create time management
In this case, you must set time in the day to be able to carry out the various rights and obligations that need to be fulfilled. So, it's not just work but also other important aspects of life such as meal times, sleep, and others. Everyone needs a fair share.
Of the 24 hours you have in a day, divide these times according to the list of obligations you need to carry out. Make a plan every day and don't forget to record it on your daily calendar.
The goal is so that you know when to leave work and when to gather with friends. When you don't have a plan, your time will easily be taken up by other things, including work.
2. Learn to say no
It's not uncommon for someone to work excessively because they don't feel comfortable refusing a boss's request to do other work outside of their duties. If you want to have a more balanced life and work, learn to say no.
Don't always say yes to other tasks that you feel will ruin your time outside the office. There's no harm in saying no because you really deserve to enjoy your free time.
3. Don't take work home
Understand carefully, it's best not to take work home. No need to check e-mail or receive calls about work when you are at home. Use the time at home to rest and do other things that are not related to work.
Try to complete all work in the office. Organize your working time at the office so that it is not wasted. To be more efficient, turn off your cell phone to minimize distractions from checking it frequently.
However, if there is work that needs to be continued at home, you can steal time off once in a while. However, don't go too far to the point where you can't limit it.
